ABOUT US

Diaspora TV Switzerland (D-TV) an accelerating start-up originated from the success of African Mirror TV after our broadcast demand was going beyond African audience. We are broadcasting in 9 languages; English, French, Romanian, Spanish, Farsi, Albanian, Tigrinya, Arabic and German (only for kids).

Below are intro portrait of our Newscasters in their native languages.

This achievement started in 2018 and today we are the only online media platform providing audiovisual broadcast services in 9 languages in the world.
Thanks to multicultural diversity of Switzerland. We do understand the challenges and difficulties of migrants and Swiss natives in reaching out to each other. This is why D-TV created a nonreligious and non political media platform to help and support both parties via news, studio talkshows, street interviews, conference productions, events and festival coverages. Our ultra-modern studio is located in Zollikofen, Bern.

We are capable to broadcast both live and video on demand. Viewers also have the possibilities to call direct during a live TV talkshow program or join us direct via Skype from anywhere in the world. DTV 24/7 online play-out system is able to deliver a non stop 24/7 program to our website www.diaspora-tv.ch The news section of D-TV is very effective due to our Swissinfo.ch partnership, a family member of Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SBC SRG SSR.

Why Diaspora TV Switzerland?

One might wonder why do we need a TV station that broadcasts in languages outside Swiss official languages. Those are the reasons that best define our mission, aims and objectives: The statistics from January 1st 2017 show that the population of Switzerland was over 8.4 million, up 1.1 percent from the previous year, as the Swiss Statistics Office said in its annual report. However while the number of Swiss citizens grew by 0.6 percent in 2016, the number of foreign residents was up by 2.6 percent, it said. There are now more than 2.1 million foreigners living in Switzerland, up from just under 2.05 million a year earlier, comprising 24.9 percent of the total population. Recently Switzerland is home to over 30’000 Eritreans, which make it the biggest Eritrean diaspora community in the world.

Integration is very crucial in Switzerland. No one can question the effort of the Swiss Government in integrating the migrants into the society by providing migrants with language courses and programs. But despite these efforts most migrants do not consume Swiss media most especially the audio virtual media like programs of the national and regional Swiss TV stations. This unconcern is due to 2 major reasons; Lack of good knowledge of the language and the TV contents of national and regional Swiss TV stations does not represent their interests.

Since no strong migrant media network was existing before the establishment of Diaspora TV Switzerland, many institutions, NGOs, government and Cantonal Offices are concerned on how to reach migrant populations. They have good and great publication for migrants, in some cases those publications are in the languages of the migrants but still it is very difficult to reach them. Today the establishment of Diaspora TV Switzerland is bridging all these gaps. Information that are of interest to migrants are now been broadcast online in their own languages.

The migrants need to know about important national events in Switzerland, changes in laws and educational system for kids for example Lernplan 21. They have little knowledge about what is going on within their own community due to lack of effective media network.
The migrants lack information on health supports benefits and for this reason could not access it.
